A very special trip...
We had the intention to visit the Khaudum national park for quite a long time. Some travelers' reports were saying that it was the sandy track was so deep that it was advisable to go in convoy... anyway as we almost always travel alone, we decided to go. The sand was definitely not so deep, however it was extremely bumpy... not quite corrugated but more like a long undulation causing constant ups and downs which gets absolutely terrible when it come in resonance! We then realised that the whole suspension of the ranger needed an urgent serious upgrade! Besides the bad road conditions, we enjoyed the short visit through the parc but would probably not want to go back.
The next day when we reached the tar road between Rundu and Divundu, something terrible happened... a huge cloud of hot oil coming from the front axle surrounded the ranger. We had to tow the car back to Rundu and found out after the weekend that the front axle cracked due to 2 things : the 4x4 did not de-engaged properly and the front tyres were different size! We had to remove the front propshafts to be able to go back home.
Instead of going back home, we decided to spend a few nights in Etosha with our 4x2 ranger!
