A very special treat at the luxury Onguma Lodge where we were upgraded to the only guests in the honeymoon suite at the Fort... wow!
We then drove through Etosha national park from Okaukuejo gate to the western gate passed the Dolomite Camp. Then the adventure started with a few wildcamps along the Kunene river and a 2 nights at Epupa Falls where we met our new Dutch friends, Charlotte and Arno. The intention was to drive together to Puros through the begining of Van Zijl road the following the Kuhumib and Hoarusib riverbeds... but as they were renting a 4x4 there were not allowed to go off D roads... meaning through riverbeds. So we took 2 different paths and spent a night together at Puros. The irony is that the only small portion of D road on our path – the D3703 which is the begining of the Van Zijl road – was in fact 10 times worst than any river beds we drove through! We spent almost 3 h driving the last 5 km before turning south at Otjitanda! For the first time, we drove through the beautiful Puros canyon where the Hoarusib river was still flowing and then reached the Hoanib river and spent our last night at the Elephant Song campsite watching elephants browsing below the cliffs in the riverbed.
