A very exciting trip for dad and son – James... especially after getting learner driving license the morning before departure... and plenty of new discoveries.
James and I have not travelled together for years... so it was extremely exciting to spend time together. We wild camp every nights except the last one at Spitzkoppe where some of his friends were joining us. With permits to explore Namib-Naukluft and Dorob secrets, we drove down into Kuiseb canyon from the eastern side of Gobabeb following a very steep track and spectacular viewpoints. Snorkeling with very playful seals at Pelican point was a very special experience. Along the coast, we explored the area around the old salt mine and the abandon tin mine where very salty underground water fills the quarry and create a "dead sea" swimming hole. Following tracks, we drove through the moon landscape around the Mesum crater formed by an old volcano and reached Brandberg mountain before exploring the Omaruru riverbed down to Spitzkoppe.
